New! Growth Through Growing
Two new booklets have been produced, highlighting ways in which growing-related activities are being used to support the learning of students with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, and those with special educational needs. Using a mix of case studies and practitioner testimony they demonstrate the value of working with plants in helping students engage with learning, gain in confidence and develop new skills and abilities.
The booklets are only available in electronic format, and may be downloaded here.
Renewable World
Want to know more about renewables but don’t know who to ask? Try The Renewable World, a website grounded in good-quality science, and offering an innovative way into this sometimes perplexing area.
Students are immediately engaged through an interactive, Top Trumps style game that encourages them to explore the use of renewable and non-renewable materials in the past, present and future. This helps them understand that many of our cheap, oil-based products come at a high environmental cost, and to explore more sustainable options for the future.
Teachers can start by using some of the interactive debating and choices tools to promote thought and discussion around the topic of renewables. Or take advantage of more detailed schemes of work, developed by other education professionals, in a range of subjects.
There are also informative videos from people working in the renewables industry.
